Fallow Deer

Native to Europe and Asia - Gestation: about 8 - 9 months

The fallow deer stands as the lone descendant of the Ice Age Megacerines, also known as giant deer. Throughout most of the year, these majestic creatures form single-sex herds, with females and their young in one group, and juvenile and adult males in another. While these groups mingle freely, true intimacy only occurs during the breeding season, where powerful stags battle each other with their imposing antlers. Additionally, both male and female fallow deer have a distinctive Adam’s apple in the front of their throat. They also have remarkable hearing and sense of smell, allowing them to hear a twig crunch from a remarkable 100 yards away.
