Blesbok

Native to South Africa - Gestation: about 8 months

Blesbok are striking animals with rich brown bodies, lighter saddles, and distinctive white blazes on their faces. Both sexes have horns, but males display impressive, S-shaped ones that emphasize their strength. Thriving in open fields and plains with ample water, Blesbok are adapted to spot predators in their expansive habitats. They undertake migrations across grasslands to follow the rains in search of lush pastures. In early summer, female Blesbok typically give birth to a single calf, which remains close to its mother, fostering a strong bond. However, these resilient creatures can face challenges, such as irritation from botfly larvae in their nasal passages. Supporting Blesbok conservation is vital for their survival and the preservation of their ecosystems.
